Let’s Begin With Isaiah

READ: Isaiah 13:6–16

Babylon beneath a darkening sky.

Shalom, family!

This coming Shabbat, we’ll continue our study of Isaiah 13.

Last week, we looked at Babylon—what happened to this powerful kingdom, why YHWH judged it, and what we can learn from its failures.

But there’s something interesting about the middle of this chapter.

Isaiah describes people terrified, the sun and moon going dark, and even the heavens and earth being shaken.

What are we supposed to make of all that?

That’s what we’ll be looking into this week.

Open your Bible.

Read Isaiah 13:6–16. Don’t worry about understanding everything just yet. For today, I simply want you to pay attention to what Isaiah says.

What does he tell us about the Day of YHWH? What happens to the people? And what reasons does he give for judgment?

In your journal: Write down three things you noticed and one question you have about the passage.

Keep that question. We may find the answer as we continue studying.

Tomorrow, we’ll take a closer look at the Day of YHWH.
