FRIDAY — RETURN TO THE ORACLE
READ: Isaiah 10:5–7; Isaiah 13:1–5
All week we've followed the biblical story surrounding Isaiah. Today we return to where we started—but now we know more than we did on Monday.
Read slowly. Notice what Scripture allows you to see.
1. LOOK BACK
Read Isaiah 10:5–7.
How does YHWH describe Assyria?
What does YHWH intend to accomplish through this nation? Does Assyria understand its role the same way?
2. RETURN TO ISAIAH 13
Now read Isaiah 13:1–5.
Who is giving the commands?
Who is gathering the army?
What does the passage tell you about who is ultimately directing these events?
3. COMPARE
Put Isaiah 10:5–7 beside Isaiah 13:1–5.
What similarities do you notice?
What questions are still unanswered?
Bring those questions with you tomorrow. Don't feel like you need to solve them tonight.
TAKE IT TO SHABBAT
This week we've practiced something important: notice, ask questions, follow the context, and compare Scripture with Scripture.
Tomorrow we will put what we've discovered on the table and begin working through Isaiah 13 together.
Come with your Bible, your observations, and your questions.
